Eau Claire businesswoman, Rebecca Cooke announced a run for Congress hoping to succeed Democratic Rep. Ron Kind.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire businesswoman, Rebecca Cooke announced a run for Congress hoping to succeed Democratic Rep. Ron Kind. 

Cooke is a member of the state's economic development agency board and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. She would be the first woman to represent the 3rd Congressional District if she wins. 

She owns and operates Red's Mercantile in downtown Eau Claire. In 2016, she founded the Red Letter Grant which is a nonprofit that supports female entrepreneurs. 

Other democrats in the race are state Sen. Brad Pfaff and Brett Knudsen and republican Derrick Van Orden. 

The primary election will be on Aug. 9, 2022.
